Super Minimalist House Design - Italian Home Architecture

This Italian home architecture designed by Andrea Oliva from Cittaarchitettura is what we like to call “modern minimalist” at its best. This contemporary house design simple through and through, from its flat property to its straightforward rectangular shape, flat roofline and neutral white-and-grey palette that stands out starkly against the lush green backdrop. Two main elements define this countryside home design: a concrete and plaster front porch (which is a favorite outdoor entertaining area by summer) followed by the home’s main body. Windows provide a clean, contemporary facade to the structure while framing the pastoral vistas of the seemingly endless grassy ground. Interiors are bright and airy, featuring a white backdrop punctuated by wood-framed windows and few but fashionable features – we love the speckled staircase! Both Beautiful and Smart | Green Architecture

An interesting title appeared recently in a reputable newspaper. The title was 'Beautiful and Smart," an intriguing and confusing title choice considering the article appeared in the real estate section of the newspaper. The article described a green architectural house that was both aesthetically beautiful and eco 'smart.'

Although the two concepts used to exist in paradox, over the past ten years there has been a strong movement towards intertwining the two. Most people assume that they must make a choice between building either beautiful or green. This is no longer the case. As the construction and components of green architecture become more sophisticated and advanced, home builders will no longer have to decide between their sense of civic responsibility to be green and the fantasy picture of their home.

While eco friendly architecture used to be too complicated and expensive for the masses, recent developments have occurred that are paving the way for its conversion to mainstream. Construction stores now have sections dedicated to eco-friendly products. Tools and materials used in green architecture now have labels detailing if they are environmentally friendly.

Home and Garden Television hosts segments dedicated exclusively to green architecture and shows their hosts using green products in other segments. There are also a plethora of websites now offering tips and ideas on how to incorporate green house plans at a minimum cost including offering free home plans and coupons for green products.

It is also important to understand that green architecture is not just an approach to the structure of any individual house. Green architecture also refers to the relationship a how shares with its given environment and the topography of the land surrounding it.

For example, if a house is built in a hot and humid city, an architect will likely try to minimize the amount of windows in the house to avoid the wasted energy resulting from air conditioning. Solar panels are integrated into houses where sun shines the majority of the year.

Sorry haven’t been finding time to write lately thanks to mid-terms! Hence, I’ll leave you guys with this for now. It is a new architectural concept known as Dynamic Architecture where a building is able to change its shape even after construction. I watched the promotional video (below) and apart from the comprehensive technology behind it, the first thought that came to my mind was “What’s the point?? O_O??”.. and then it dawned upon me “AH! It would be perfect for the Chinese because then they won’t have to buy a new house everytime their fortune directions changed (think Feng Shui). Just rotate the house :D .. “. I wonder whether it is possible to dynamically change the interior architecture of the house as well, then we can get a new house easily everytime we get bored.

I tried searching for information online about this great “Rotating Tower” that will first be built in Dubai but couldn’t find much apart from it being opened for reservations. Maybe I’ll have time to pop over to the construction site when I visit my second home in December.

The Laidley designed and built overall great execution in a limited space. The house is located in San Francisco, California, on the top floor we can see the beautiful view of the city. 147 Laidley was designed and built by the Architect owners, Jim Zack and Lise de Vito, and they now occupy it along with their two children.

Design was carried out by the couples architecture firm, Zack/de Vito Architecture, with Lise taking on the role of lead designer. Construction was completed by their companion construction company, BuiltForm Construction.

The house is a new, ground up single family residence located on a typical 25′x100′ San Francisco infill lot. The house is just over 3,000 sq ft, three + bedrooms three bathrooms and an open plan living floor with dramatic views of the City, the Bay and the Bay Bridge. The house was designed and built with sustainability in mind using appropriate materials, systems and construction techniques. In addition to the now standard fare of reclaimed, rapid renewable, low toxicity materials, photovoltaic electric and solar hydronic systems, one of the more innovative construction approaches was a panelized framing systems, with 90% of the framing produced off site and assembled in 3 1/2 weeks.

The design of the house is modern and open, expressive of materials, detail and craft, yet it was easily assimilated into its urban context of older houses. The attention to detail is best exemplified by the interior stair custom fabricated from water jet cut steel stringers, acrylic treads and steel and glass guardrails.

Metromover Station - Future concept

The Metromover station proposal by Melbourne, Australia’s Office 24/7 has been selected as the winner of the dawntown architectural competition. The firm’s entry is based on the concept of a diaphragm, creating an iconic new station for miami’s metromover rail system. The building’s façade is comprised of a large scale interactive display that will display images, video and art installations linking the interior to the plaza outside.

The design aims to also connect the station to the plaza outside through a series of ramps. Inside, travelers can do more than just wait for their train, taking in interesting videos or socializing in the expansive atrium that is more like an auditorium than a platform.
